Skaps ordförande Alfons Karabuda blev i lördags vald till president för det av UNESCO grundade International Music Council (IMC), världens största nätverk för musikorganisationer och -institutioner som representerar över 200 miljoner medlemmar, under organisationens generalförsamling i Paris.

”Det är en mycket stor ära att ha fått förtroendet att leda världens största musiknätverk. IMC:s medlemmar sträcker sig över hela världen och består av alla delar i den musikaliska näringskedjan. UNESCO grundade IMC 1949 för att i en tuff efterkrigstid bygga broar och värden genom musik och kultur. Vårt samhälle är i lika stort behov av detta idag och i en alltmer stuprörsavskild musikbransch är det genom den här organisationen vi kan samarbeta över musikområden och tillsammans skapa och visa på musikens sanna värde”, säger Alfons Karabuda.

Under de sex år Alfons Karabuda suttit i International Music Council’s styrelse har han verkat för ett ökat fokus på upphovspersoners rättigheter, initierat samarbeten mellan IMC och flera stora aktörer inom musik och upphovsrätt.

ALFONS KARABUDA ELECTED NEW PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COUNCIL

This Saturday, composer and president of authors rights organisations ECSA (EU) and Skap (Sweden) Alfons Karabuda was elected president for the UNESCO-founded International Music Council, the worlds biggest network for music organisations and institutions, representing over 200 million creators.

”It is a great honor to be confided with the task of leading the worlds greatest network for music creators. IMC:s members come from across the globe and consist of all the various parts of the musical eco system. UNESCO founded IMC in 1949 to in a tough post war time to build bridges and values through music and culture. Our society is still in need of this. In a more and more siloed music business it is through IMC we can work across genres and together create and show the true value of music”, Alfons Karabuda says.

During the six years Alfons Karabuda has held a seat in IMC:s executive board he has worked hard to increase focus on creators rights and initiated several collaborations between IMC and other big actors within music and copyright.
