The Creators Conference

The Creators Conference is the first international conference in Sweden arranged by the creators themselves and their professional organisations.

The idea for the event was conceived by SKAP (the Swedish Society of Popular Music Composers) as a means of highlighting the situation of the creators as regards copyright, the future of the industry and technology in a solution-orientated way. The idea will now become reality on 10 March 2010 in association with the Society of Swedish Composers, FST, and the Swedish Music Information Centre, a subsidiary of the Swedish Performing Rights Society, Stim.

It is high time that the creators, authors, artists, composers, and songwriters take control and determine the future of their own work was demonstrated, as well as their determination to put their combined knowledge and experience into predicting what the wishes of tomorrow’s consumer will be.

Alfons Karabuda, creator of several scores to Swedish films and "Bookmark Childhood" and member of the panel puts it like this:

“We’ve never had so many people listening to music and watching films as we do now. This is a great success! Now it's time to find the right path. And the right path is giving the opportunity for everyone involved in this business to have fair remuneration and the possibility of creating new material in the future."

We will be presenting three international panels representing the entire music industry. Publishers, managers, legal advisors, inventors, consumers, legislators and, of course, creators. Come and listen as former Pink Floyd and Clash manager Peter Jenner gives his views on who really makes sure that the creator is justly remunerated and treated. Or listen to the experiences of those who seek out and test future sustainable remuneration solutions for digital works when Thomas Ekman, Commercial Director Tele2, Sweden, takes part in “The Middleman” panel debate.

The seminar, which is held in english, will be led by moderator and creator Mark Fishlock. Before composing music, Mark Fishlock was recording technician for a great many artists and for director Derek Jarman. Since 1985, he has been composing music for TV, radio and adverts, including Shakespeare's "Wars of the Roses". Mark is on the board of British Music Rights and is chair of the BASCA’s media committee.
